The Senior Manager, Microbiology is a member of the Senior Management Team.The purpose of this job is to manage the Microbiology Department. The Microbiology Manager must ensure appropriate systems and controls are implemented to facilitate the growth of the department and the needs of the business. The department must be managed so that customer requirements, quality requirements, and organisational goals are met. The department must be managed so that it is commercially successful and agreed financial goals must be met. Staff must be led, motivated and developed so that they are able to react effectively to the changing business needs. Responsibilities. To effectively manage all members of their team including areas such as, work rotas, productivity, training & development, housekeeping, safety, quality, documentation, etc. to ensure the laboratory is run at maximum efficiency. Provide leadership and direction to the microbiology senior team to ensure it meets its commitments to its customers, while complying with regulatory requirements. Develop the organization such that it is responsive, flexible and adaptable to future challenges. Ensure the timely deployment and implementation of new business opportunities that support flexibility, adaptability and efficiency goals. Represent the microbiology function to all internal and external stakeholders. Ensure microbiology team involvement in validation / qualification / calibration / technology transfer projects. Prepare, submit and defend microbiology budgets including headcount, expenses, capital and training. Prepare, submit and defend microbiology capital projects to improve laboratory operations and supply chain support. Maintain technical and regulatory knowledge and ensure information is disseminated across the department. Provide formal and informal performance feedback to direct and indirect reports across the department including performance appraisals and compensation. Cascade overall department functional goals and objectives consistent with the company’s goals and strategy, develop plans to achieve those goals and prioritize and execute those plans. Provide leadership for the compendial interactions (USP, EP, etc.) and assure QC methods and specifications are compliant to compendial requirements. Handle any customer related queries where necessary and liaise with the team to solve these queries if needed. Education / Qualifications. Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or related scientific field. Master’s degree in Microbiology or related scientific field would be an advantage. Experience / Skills. 10+ years total experience in a GMP laboratory environment. 7+ years of experience in supervision of technical personnel in a GMP environment. Excellent working knowledge of FDA, EU and other regulations. Strong technical knowledge of microbiological techniques and instrumentation. Excellent working knowledge of LIMS. Ability to work in a multidiscipline team but also possesses self-motivation and drive. Maturity to accept responsibility for resolving difficult situations in a professional manner. Oral and written communication skills in order to be able to tactfully communicate with regulatory agencies and senior management. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead other staff members in a team environment and drive results from others, while ensuring company strategy, goals, and objectives are met.
